A magnet is a material or object that produces a magnetic field . This magnetic field is invisible but is responsible for the most notable property of a magnet: a force that pulls on other ferromagnetic materials , such as iron , and attracts or repels other magnets. An electromagnet is made from a coil of wire that acts as a magnet when an electric current passes through it but stops being a magnet when the current stops. Often, the coil is wrapped around a core of soft ferromagnetic material such as steel, which greatly enhances the magnetic field produced by the coil. The overall strength of a magnet is measured by its magnetic moment or, alternatively, the total magnetic flux it produces. The local strength of magnetism in a material is measured by its magnetization .

All natural bug spray for you and the kiddos, and it smells to good!
I am not sure why, but I seem to be one of those people that always gets bit up by bugs, even when no one else is. I can be in a group of 5 or 6 other people and I will seemingly be the only one. I must taste really good. It must be all that healthy, real food! After getting bit up pretty good, the first few weeks of summer, I was determined to do some research and make my own homemade essential oil insect repellent spray. There are many essential oils, known for being excellent natural insect repellents. Here are just some of them: Citronella, Clove, Lemongrass, Lemon Eucalyptus, Cedarwood, Rosemary, Tea Tree, Eucalyptus, Cedar, Catnip, Lavender, Peppermint, Basil, Rose Geranium, Cinnamon Oil, Thyme, Lemon, Orange, PineMany of these different essential oils work especially well for specific pests, according to the research I have done, here are some of the more well known pests and essential oils that work as repellents for them:
Mouthwash , mouth rinse , oral rinse or mouth bath , is a liquid which is held in the mouth passively or swilled around the mouth by contraction of the perioral muscles and/or movement of the head, and may be gargled , where the head is tilted back and the liquid bubbled at the back of the mouth.Usually mouthwashes are antiseptic solutions intended to reduce the microbial load in the oral cavity, although other mouthwashes might be given for other reasons such as for their analgesic , anti-inflammatory or anti-fungal action. Additionally, some rinses act as saliva substitutes to neutralize acid and keep the mouth moist in xerostomia (dry mouth). Cosmetic mouthrinses temporarily control or reduce bad breath and leave the mouth with a pleasant taste. Common use involves rinsing the mouth with about 20 ml (2/3 fl oz ) of mouthwash. The wash is typically swished or gargled for about half a minute and then spat out. Most companies suggest not drinking water immediately after using mouthwash. In some brands, the expectorate is stained, so that one can see the bacteria and debris. Mouthwash should not be used immediately after brushing the teeth so as not to wash away the beneficial fluoride residue left from the toothpaste. Similarly, the mouth should not be rinsed out with water after brushing. Patients were told to spit dont rinse after toothbrushing as part of a National Health Service campaign in the UK.
Many lawn and garden centres and other retail stores offer a wide variety of natural pesticides and insecticides. Many of these can be easily made at home.Although natural and organic products are biodegradable, they should still be used sparingly, since these mixtures destroy good bugs such as spiders and ladybugs, along with the bad bugs or pests. Here follow recipes for organic or natural insecticides or pesticides that some sources claim to work for organic gardeners.
Soap sprays are some of the oldest insecticides used by gardeners in the old days; gardeners used to boil water with Fels Naptha soap to create an effective soap insecticide. Over time, these "old fashioned" remedies fell out of favor as they were replaced by much stronger and more toxic chemicals. Today, however, as the interest in organic and less chemical intensive gardening continues to grow, insecticidal soap sprays have made a major comeback.Insecticidal soap works through several mechanisms. The soap itself penetrates insects' cuticles, which causes cell collapse and desiccation. In other words, it dries them out. They also operate by suffocating insects such as scale insects . In general, soap sprays are effective for soft-bodied insects including mealybugs and aphids . To varying degrees, soap sprays are also effective against chiggers, earwigs, fleas, mites, scales, and thrips. They are not effective, however, on chewing insects such as caterpillars and beetles.Although soap sprays are less toxic to gardeners and non-pest animals, they can still be potentially damaging to some plants, especially if an oil has been added to the spray. Before the widespread use of any spray, test it on a small section of the plant first and wait at least 24 hours to see if there are any negative effects.
There are over 150 species of mosquito in the United States; over 3000 worldwide. Almost all fall into four common genre: anopheline, culex, culex pallens and anopheles. In the United States, regional mosquitoes are known as house mosquitoes, southern mosquitoes, northern mosquitoes, day-biting mosquitoes, asian tiger mosquitoes, yellow fever mosquitoes, salt water mosquitoes, salt water marsh mosquitoes, swamp mosquitoes, glades mosquitoes, dark rice field mosquitoes, black salt marsh mosquitoes and malaria mosquitoes. Some are able to fully develop from eggs in less than a week. Most take 10-14 days to reach maturity but what is important is that mosquitoes do grow rapidly. Mosquitoes need some form of moisture and in general, high levels of moisture to sustain themselves. Although female mosquitoes may live for up to a year, most die in the season they were born.

Bruising refers to a rupture of blood vessels, took place as a result of a blow to the specific spot of that body. Bruise, medically known as a contusion, is a typical skin injury to the tissue underlying your skin resulting in a discoloration of the skin. If you are wondering how to get rid of bruises fast overnight , continue to read this post.Individuals typically get bruises when they run into something or bruises can occur in some people who work out strongly, such as athletes and weight lifters. Inexplicable bruises that occur easily or for no obvious reason could indicate a blood disorder, particularly if the bruising is accompanied by frequent nosebleeds or bleeding gums. Bruises in elderly individuals regularly happen due to thinning of their skin with age. Medicines like aspirin or warfarin, which are blood thinners and are frequently provided for treatment in heart problem, are likewise one of the causes of bruising. Vitamin K plays an important role in blood clot and deficiency of the same may result in easy bruising.A fresh bruise could actually be red. It will then turn blue or dark purple within a couple of hours, green or then yellow after a couple of days as it recovers. A contusion is typically tender and often even painful for the very first few days, but the discomfort normally disappears as the color fades. There is no threat of infection since the skin is not broken in a bruise.

Most recreational vehicles are not constructed to endure freezing temperatures. If a cold front is approaching, RVers can take precautionary measures to keep an RV water hose from solidifying. The most inexpensive, common sense step to take when cold weather camping is to fill your fresh water tank in preparation of disconnecting from your water supply. For campers who plan on enduring lengthy cold spells, special hose insulation materials are available at RV supply shops and hardware stores.
Everyone knows the old adage is true, right? “Drink 8, 8 ounce glasses of water a day!” You’ve heard it from your doctor, your nutritionist, your mom, the governor of all your health decisions (obviously none other than the Great and Powerful Oz!), every health book you’ve ever read, and of course, plenty of info-graphics going viral on Facebook, so, it must be true.Because your body is 60% water, of course! (Or, was it 80%? Who cares! You’re basically nothing but water.) Your brain is made out of water! Water is the source of life! You need to drink more water to get rid of toxins! You need to drink more water to get pretty skin! You need to drink water to lose weight! If you think you’re hungry, you’re really actually thirsty! By the time you get thirsty, you’re already dehydrated! Coffee makes you dehydrated! Taking a shower makes you dehydrated! Breathing makes you dehydrated! If you don’t have clear pee, you’re about to die!!!If this ain’t your first rodeo, and you’ve read this blog before (which isn’t exactly keen on many a mainstream health doctrinal standard), I bet you might be able to venture a guess as to what I’m about to say next.

Plant taxonomy classifies catnip plants as Nepeta cataria . Note that the common name, "catmint" is preferred in the U.K. As a result, it may be tempting to use the two names interchangeably. But in the U.S. we tend to reserve "catmint" for the ornamental relatives of N. cataria , such as Nepeta x faassenii and Nepeta mussinii . Where the latter are referred to below, the scientific name is used, in order to avoid confusion with the main subject of this page, which is N. cataria .Nepeta cataria plants are classified as herbaceous perennial herbs. Catnip plants have naturalized in parts of North America. Even where they are not perennial, they will likely reseed. In fact, some of you may find catnip too weedy and too aggressive a spreader to grow it in your landscape.Catnip plants can attain a size of 3 feet tall and 3 feet wide. Their small, white or lilac-colored flowers grow in clusters. The stems of these fragrant plants have the squarish shape typical of the mint family (to which they belong), whether herb or weed ( creeping Charlie , for instance). Catnip plants enjoy sun and are drought-tolerant ground covers , making them a good choice for sunny, dry areas where many other plants would struggle. But they offer little ornamental value. Nepeta cataria is the preferred herb to grow for cat-lovers; fewer cats are attracted to the ornamental types, such as Nepeta mussinii .
Cockroaches are common indoor pests. Their appearance is offensive to many homeowners, but there are more important reasons to remove a cockroach infestation. Cockroaches can transmit diseases on their bodies and in their feces. Indoor cockroach infestations are also now thought to be one of the leading causes of allergies. There are numerous options available to the homeowner who wishes to use a pesticide as a control method. Total-release fogger aerosols, sometimes called "bombs," are among these choices, but their effectiveness is an important question to the concerned homeowner. If you go to a store in search of a chemical pesticide, chances are good that you will see a total-release aerosol fogger or "bomb" labeled for cockroach control. The University of Florida IFAS Extension does not recommend using these. since their effect is limited to the cockroaches that come into direct contact with the fog. The bombs shoot pesticides into the air; the pesticides then settle over the various surfaces in your home. Anyone who has encountered cockroaches knows how good they are at hiding, so any cockroach that can hide from the pesticide residue will be unaffected by it.Setting bombs aside, the question then becomes, "What pesticides should I use?" In general, there are three styles of pesticides commonly used on cockroaches. Baits tempt roaches into eating lethal pesticide chemicals and are very effective at limiting cockroach populations. Contact spray insecticide applied directly to roaches and dust insecticides are also very effective. A relatively new class of insecticide chemicals called insect growth regulators (IGRs) don't kill insects upon contact but rather aim to reduce insect populations over the long term by interfering with the insects' ability to reproduce.
Lets take a little trip into the future. Our mission will be to find out the secrets of a mad scientists lab and how it is that he is able to create little clones of himself at the push of a button. The little clones are running wild and wreaking havoc all over our future city, so it is of utmost importance we figure out how he produces clones so quickly. Thankfully, since we are ardent students of virology, we can figure out how the mad scientist does what he does by comparing his work to the life cycle of viruses. In order to figure out the madmans secrets, we need to climb into his lab. Thankfully, we have some masks to help protect our identity and a grappling hook specifically designed for this building. Similarly, when viruses want to attack a living host or cell, they use a very specific protein on the outer surface of its capsid or envelope that will allow its attachment to the surface of the host cell. This specificity is really important as the virus doesnt want to attach to just anything that comes its way because it may have no use for it. Hence, having a specific hook that will only attach to its specific targets surface receptors will improve its chances of survival. This process, the process of viral capsid or envelope proteins attaching to the receptors on a target cell, is termed, not surprisingly, attachment . The specific set of cells or entities upon which a virus can successfully attach to is known as its host range.

We get asked almost daily in our safety group about using essential oils with pets (usually dogs and cats). Because the usage information for dogs and cats is not the same, I have split the information in two posts: this one for dogs, and one for cats .Before I get into the lists of essential oils which are safe to use, I want you to understand some basic safety information:Caroline Ingraham is recognized as the go-to expert when it comes to using essential oils with animals. She founded the approach, referred to as applied zoopharmacognosy, which allows animals to self-select the essential oils which will benefit them the most.
A fine wire probe or other delivery mechanism is used to transmit radio waves to tissues near the probe. Molecules within the tissue are caused to vibrate which lead to a rapid increase of the temperature, causing coagulation of the proteins within the tissue, effectively killing the tissue. At higher powered applications, full desiccation of tissue is possible. With the latest technologies, reduction of electricity requirements, and miniaturization of the needed power supplies, EC systems have now become affordable for water treatment plants and industrial processes worldwide. [ third-party source needed ]Electrocoagulation (electro, meaning to apply an electrical charge to water, and coagulation, meaning the process of changing the particle surface charge, allowing suspended matter to form an agglomeration) is an advanced and economical water treatment technology. It effectively removes suspended solids to sub-micrometre levels, breaks emulsions such as oil and grease or latex, and oxidizes and eradicates heavy metals from water without the use of filters or the addition of separation chemicals
Intimacy versus isolation is the sixth stage of Erik Erikson's theory of psychosocial development . This stage takes place during young adulthood between the ages of approximately 19 and 40. During this period, the major conflict centers on forming intimate, loving relationships with other people.Erikson’s theory of psychosocial development proposes that people pass through a series of stages centered on social and emotional development. One thing that made Erikson’s theory unique is that unlike many other developmental theories, the psychosocial stages look at how people change and grow over the course of the entire lifetime.

Because a lavender plant smells a whole lot nicer than a bottle of bug spray. (Keep in mind: To achieve the maximum benefits of these plants, in most cases, the leaves need to be crushed up and rubbed on your skin!)Originally used as a perfume , essential oils and extracts from Cintronella plants are so effective at keeping mosquitos away that theyre now a go-to ingredient for many commercial repellents. This member of the mint family boasts health benefits, a lovely smell, and its oils can eliminate any pests lurking around.
The symptoms caused by the Herpes Simplex Virus HSV can vary from person to person and there is a range of other conditions they can be confused with. Some people having no noticeable outbreaks or symptoms, while other people can have almost constant outbreaks. The first outbreak | Cycle of a typical outbreak | Recurrences | What brings on or “triggers” symptoms? | Prodromal symptoms (warning symptoms) | Rare Symptoms | Type1 VS Type 2 Symptoms | Mistaken ConditionsThe first episode is the most severe as most people have not been exposed to the virus before and antibodies will not have been produced before the body is able to trigger the immune response.
Only 2 remedies have I ever know to actually work. The first listed makes the most sense, since a hiccups is simply a spasm of the diaphragm, and you need to disrupt this spasm. The second offers no rhyme or reason, but works nonetheless.
A subscriber identity module or subscriber identification module ( SIM ) is an integrated circuit that is intended to securely store the international mobile subscriber identity (IMSI) number and its related key , which are used to identify and authenticate subscribers on mobile telephony devices (such as mobile phones and computers ). It is also possible to store contact information on many SIM cards. SIM cards are always used on GSM phones; for CDMA phones, they are only needed for newer LTE -capable handsets. SIM cards can also be used in satellite phones , computers, or cameras. The SIM circuit is part of the function of a universal integrated circuit card (UICC) physical smart card , which is usually made of PVC with embedded contacts and semiconductors . SIM cards are transferable between different mobile devices. The first UICC smart cards were the size of credit and bank cards; sizes were reduced several times over the years, usually keeping electrical contacts the same, so that a larger card could be cut down to a smaller size.A SIM card contains its unique serial number ( ICCID ), international mobile subscriber identity (IMSI) number, security authentication and ciphering information, temporary information related to the local network, a list of the services the user has access to, and two passwords: a personal identification number (PIN) for ordinary use, and a personal unblocking code (PUK) for PIN unlocking.

Mosquito repellents are substances that are designed to make surfaces
unpleasant or unattractive to mosquitos. They typically contain an active
ingredient that repels mosquitos as well as secondary ingredients, which
aid in delivery and cosmetic appeal. They are available in many forms,
from creams to lotions to oils, but are most often sold as aerosol
products.Traditionally, various types of substances have been used to repel
mosquitos. These include such things as smoke, plant extracts, oils, tars,
and muds. As insect repellent technology became more sophisticated,
individual compounds were discovered and isolated. This allowed the
formulation of new, more efficient forms of mosquito repellents.Since none of the available materials were ideal repellents, research into
new synthetic materials continued. In 1955, scientists synthesized DEET
(n-n-diethylnetatoluamide), currently the most widely used active
ingredient for mosquito repellents. After its discovery, repellent
manufacturers developed many different forms in which to deliver DEET,
such as creams, lotions, and aerosols.
The outdoor cats in my neighborhood (Jefferson) have mastered the art of opening my garbage can so they can feast on whatever they find inside. They often spread garbage about in the process. I’m all for a local regulation to curb this nuisance. We recently got a kitty and have kept him indoors, but when the kids and I go in and outside on a nice spring day, he seems longing to come out. What about the idea of having the cat live a more natural, albeit, shorter life? I’m reconsidering my decision and would love to hear the thoughts of others. And, what is the thinking about declawing indoor cats? Our vet said no big deal, is it?I’m guessing the garbage can raiders are more often raccoons. We let our cats out and we understand the risk, but they are insanely happy fellas–plus they’re in all night.
One of the most popular tractors of all time, the Ford N-series tractor is an American icon. More than fifty years after the last 8N rolled off the assembly line, these tractors are still incredibly popular. You’ll see them all over – at auction sales and dealerships, but also alongside the road with a “For Sale” sign, at garage sales, and even at your favorite restaurant on date night (true story – as often as we’ve had to go home to get a trailer, we should really learn not to leave home without them!).As beloved as factory original N-series tractors are, I’ve seen plenty that are rather… unique. Like the one I bought from an old hippie that was painted bright yellow, with flowers all over the hood. I thought I’d have to repaint it, but before I got around to doing so it was spotted by another customer who just LOVED the paint job. Problem solved, no paint required! For a more serious collector, though, being able to identify exactly which of the N-style tractors (9N, 2N, or 8N) you’re looking at is very important. While we’ve gone into specific details about the year-to-year improvements in N-series tractors before ( click here ), today I’m going to give you a quick “field guide” to determining the model of an N-series tractor.
My dad likes to tell a story of a beach vacation my family went on when I was about five years old. We lived in North Carolina and had gotten up super early to drive to the coast, which was about four hours away. As the story goes, my exhausted father looked over at me at some point and thought “Wow, she’s started to get really hairy legs for a 5-year-old.” When he took a closer look; however, he realized that rather than hair, my legs were actually covered from top to bottom with mosquitos. We made a brisk exodus from the beach, my brother and I threw up in the car on the way home, and we never went on another family beach vacation again.Mosquito bites are one of those things you get used to where I lived, and I did. Every summer trip outdoors typically ended in at least a few bites, although I’ve never had an experience like my pre-K trip to the beach again. My mom always tried to have a bottle of Cortizone in the medicine cabinet ( and I can’t say enough good things about an oatmeal bath when things get dicey), but sometimes it wouldn’t be enough to battle the problem (or we’d be camping), and so we did a few others things as well.
Blister healing time depends on many factors. In most cases, they will disappear on their own, but it may take longer than expected.Time for healing a blister is variable. The smaller the blister, the quicker it will heal. If your blister is large, it will take more time to heal. Blisters can also be caused by contact dermatitis , dyshidrotic eczema , shingles , frostbite or some autoimmune blistering diseases.

If you are heading outside for picnics, sporting events, yard work, or relaxing on the patio, chances are you’ve seen a bug or two already. While covering up is the best option for decreasing bug bites, it’s not always realistic. After all… summer can be HOT!In the past I have reached for cans of commercial bug spray lying around during cookouts and camping excursions; I figured it was better than dancing around like a wild turkey, slapping myself, and shouting at bugs while friends shot strange looks at me. However, I never felt quite right about it.The more I educate myself about DEET and other chemicals, the more I’m convinced I have to be proactive about finding better alternatives. (If you’re new to the DEET issue, you might be interested in reading this article .) I try to treat my skin with the respect it deserves as it performs the difficult job of protecting my insides. Thank goodness I have discovered the power of essential oils and their ability to deter bugs!

Chiggers are the bane of berry pickers, hikers, gardeners and farmers. These tiny, almost invisible mites hang out in grasslands, forests, parks and around berry bushes. They have been called red bugs, berry bugs and harvest mites as well as chiggers ( Trombiculidae ).Chiggers are best known for the intense itching their bites trigger. There are a lot of misconceptions about the itch. Boy Scouts used to believe that the larvae would burrow under the skin and the only way to get rid of them was to suffocate them with clear nail polish.Dermatologists discount this as an urban legend. Chiggers do not burrow under the skin or even bite. Instead they slurp up skin cells, leaving behind digestive enzymes that can cause an intense allergic reaction that is unbearably itchy. Treatment with powerful prescription corticosteroid gels counteract this immune response.
